Greetings and news from String Theory, Bishop's eclectic, acoustic Trio-Greg Smith, Dan Connor and Charlie Broten. Songs on the Audio Player include excerpts of our live concert with Gilly McChesney at The Mill Creek Station, some live takes at the Pokonobe Lodge and others to give you a flavor of the group.
Due to great success in 2011, we'll be back in 2012 for the Pokonobe Lodge Dinner Concert Series 8th Season. Thanks and we'll see you next season.
'String Theory' is a scientific postulation that attempts to describe nature by describing the known fundamental forces-(gravity, electromagnetism, weak and strong interactions) and matter (quarks and leptons) in a mathematically complete system. A key problem is that it really can't be tested or proven.
Well, we don't really understand much of this science but we know that when we get the strings of our guitars, fiddle, mandolin, bass and vocal chords vibrating in harmony- something pleasant happens and if you listen to us play- you can test it and see if you like it. We play many styles of music in a clean, acoustic style- lots of originals- english and americana folk, rock, country, celtic, classical, bluegrass, jazz, swing, south american, 50's, 60's, 70's. At recent private Birthday Party, the Birthday guy and gal let us know their favorite tunes and we played most of them- a musical journey to an earlier place in time.
Dan Connor <danconnormusic.com/> moved to Bishop from San Diego, where he founded and played in the renowned folk-rock band Bordertown and in Little Big Men. He continues to write great songs and sing in an expressive and distinctive voice over his one of a kind, rhythmic guitar style.
Greg Smith grew up in England, learned classical guitar but was also surrounded by the folk styles of Martin Simpson and Martin Carthy. Always inspired to learn something new he now explores Brazilian, Al Petteway, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins and many other guitar styles and artists. He can play just about anything (except heavy metal). Charlie Broten plays fiddle, guitar and bass and writes some of the tunes. he's played in the Eastern Sierra for many years with Fiddlin' Pete, <www.fiddlinpete.com>, Derik Olson, Marty Burgenbaugh and many others. Mike Muldoon <www.muldoonsgroove.com> has added drums and percussion to the String Theory sound and at many recent gigs Gillian McChesney has added her voice, classy repertoire, sparkle and European heritage to the group.
String Theory is available for concerts, weddings, mini-concerts as part of a meeting or function agenda, house parties and more. If interested, please Email through this site. Here's what guests said about the 8-22-10 Dinner Concert--
"We just had the most lovely evening at Pokonobe Lodge listening to a wonderful band, String Theory. The band covers all the musical bases with an eclectic mix of folk, rock, country and standards that is sure to please. Their original songs are delightful, and you are guaranteed a great dinner by Marci to boot. The setting on Lake Mary was beautiful, and the Mammoth Crest gave its usual spectacular sunset show. A most enjoyable dinner concert." Carol
